52 Instax

I just started this project and I’m already behind on posting about it. But don’t worry, I’m caught up in real life. And I also have a really cool instax photo album to put them all in! I’ll post more about that when it starts getting filled up.

NOT PICTURED: Zebras.

Yep, there are exotic animals about 1 mile from my house. Too bad it was too dark by the time I took this picture.

Apparently, I have this really cool habit of taking pictures at sunset, which for this camera means that part of it is dark. In person, it turns out alright but when I photograph it for my blog posts, it ends up looking like it has no detail. I took this picture a few weeks ago on one of the back roads by my house, I LOVED the sunset that night, so I took a drive.

Get Messy | 009

This week we had a prompt and it was the first time in 9 weeks that I’ve dreaded a Get Messy Thursday.

Journaling Challenge: Live your adventurous dreams on paper. What would you love to do, or at least try, if you had the courage to live more adventurously?
Art Challenge: Try a method or material you’ve never worked with before.
IMG_3700.JPGHA! Well apparently my new method is to wait until the night before and hope for the best, because that is exactly what I did. I also tried using both coffee and rit dye to add more texture to the background. It was a fun process but I got impatient and it wasn’t enough to just have the paper dyed. So, I added a recent picture of me and some gold paint around the edges. Wah-lah.
IMG_3701.JPGFor the second part, I wrote about the most amazing Chai Tea ever and it probably doesn’t make a ton of sense if you were to read it because I wrote down the left side and then down the right side after.
IMG_3704.JPGFinally, I tried the technique where you put a piece of packing tape on a magazine page and then soak it in water. Eventually the magazine paper rolls off to reveal a transparency. Cool stuff.

As far as the journaling prompt, I said, “If I were more courageous I would travel as if money were no object. To see the beautiful scenery that I can only dream up in my head. I would hike and try every new food and language. If I were courageous, I would use my blog to start my own small business or at least start writing more things.”

Here we are, week eight!

I got inspiration for this one from a picture that I took over the summer before a family shoot. I choose “Oh Happy Day” because it reminds me of the song by Aretha Franklin. It’s mostly funny to me because my cousin used to scream “NO HAPPY DAY” any time it came on.

So the actual picture…it’s different but similar and they evoke the same feeling, so why not? I love flowers.
photo F5B74FD4-CCC2-4EF5-80AA-88C5BC08470F_zpsci9q3ekp.jpgI calligraphied this one earlier in the week when I was reflecting on the things that I need to be working on. I even drew the flowers with the pen, which was so much easier to me than writing is but I’m finally starting to get the hang of the pen angle as well. I like the sketched look for this.

Finally, my bad day regime. You know, just in case.

photo A30680DB-F148-400B-AC77-2A204D9F8DDC_zpssvvjfl9q.jpgI feel like words are really resonating with me right now, which is probably why there are so many throughout my pages this week. photo 4C97EB41-F47E-4D4A-8C4A-CF8FED5FB758_zpsgcplqevs.jpgBecause glitter pens…I wish this would have shown up as good on camera as it did in person!

I basically just wrote “If it’s the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that” over and over. I found this verse in James 4 when he is telling his readers the problem with their own desires and how it is causing fighting among themselves. He reminds them to submit to God, be humble, and cleanse themselves while encouraging them to follow the Lord’s will. I particularly love the “this or that” part because it’s vague, which is how knowing God’s will sometimes feels. We have so many options in life, and sometimes it’s hard to know which is the right one. This or that. I wrote brave because that’s what following God’s will this week looks like to me. I was so nervous about starting the new job and making new co-worker friends and talking to customers on a regular basis about their wellness needs. It’s a lot. (But I like it, so it’s ok). photo 912dac11-d7bc-4037-830b-1c554f74ff7a_zps751c9a54.jpg I found this map of Missouri and decided to use it to incorporate my OLW for this year, which is going so well. I had no idea what this year would hold but I knew I’d still be here. So rooted, I am! I love the downtown life here, so that picture was from a few weeks ago when my friend and I went to get some ice cream! photo A0BF60C3-B90E-4910-934F-6BF5CBE38823_zpscrxnmsoj.jpg

Isn’t gold paint always the way to go? I had a little left after a project so I just smeared it on and wrote over the top. Today is the day. It’s kind of like a “live in the moment” sentiment for me, so I kind of love it.

This is probably one of my favorite projects. Never before have I pushed myself to create and I feel like when I do, I’m learning about myself and how my brain works, creatively. It’s pretty darn cool.

Better Late Than Never

November. Already? Goodness, I am enjoying this season more than I have in the past. Plus, we just “fell back” for day light savings, so that definitely helps fall seem better. AM I RIGHT?!

 photo pumpkin_zps477d10af.jpg

so enjoyed doing a photo challenge in October, so much so that I’ll be doing another one this month. It will be a little different, thanks to an app called “Collect”. It’s pretty great and it reminds you to take a photo and upload it to the app, then at the end of the month, you have a calendar full of photos and it looks really neat. My theme for the photos this month is thankful. I have been uploading the photos I have taken so far to the app and also to instagram, which is always pretty awesome because a lot of people post about what they are thankful for as well, such a reminder of God’s blessings! I am hoping to do some posts on being thankful and I also want to bring back my word of the year for a post or two!

what are you posting on instagram? link your username below, I’d love to check it out.
